GLOBAL SUSTAINABLE SEAFOOD INITIATIVE - GSSI

Standardization of sustainability criteria

The most recent initiative in promoting sustainable fishing Congalsa has engaged with, is GSSI (Global Sustainable Seafood Initiative). A global alliance that Congalsa joined as a Funding Partner in April 2018 and where companies, NGOs, experts and governmental and intergovernmental organizations converge.

Over the past few years sustainability of marine environment has become a mayor priority for Congalsa, therefore this new collaboration is a milestone on our commitment to a more responsible development.

This platform creates a frame to carry out the standardization of all the tools that certify responsible fisheries management, available worldwide. Its purpose is to ensure that the different certification schemes are aligned in all its essential components. GSSI provides a global reference framework for fishery products certification according to FAO guidelines, ensuring clarity, confidence and the choice of appropriate certification for seafood products.

As a funding partner, Congalsa joins the GSSI in the collective commitment to work together towards more sustainable seafood for all.

Based on the collaboration and the exchange of knowledge with GSSI, we are able to transfer to the market reliable certification schemes. This allows the establishment of internationally agreed criteria and facilitates stakeholders the implementation and use of the tools.
